Jeanette Lee Simms was born a twin on May 26, 1970, in Brooklyn, New York, to Starlington Simms and Linda Abrams. She was the youngest of twins by 13 minutes, which she loved to remind everyone. Jeanette passed away on June 26, 2023, in Lansing, Michigan.
Jan, or Bobo as her friends and family affectionately called her, moved to Las Vegas, Nevada when she was five years old with her family. She graduated from Chaparral High School in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1988. Jan started a successful career in retail as a manager of Afterthoughts in the Boulevard Mall. She was recruited to become one of the first managers in the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace. She was a manager at BCBG in the mall and Hell's Kitchen and Bar in the Paris Hotel and Casino. She later became a crew member on a cruise ship. She moved to Lansing, Michigan in 2018, where she became a barista at the Starbucks Radisson, where she created custom drinks for her favorite customers. She was very passionate about food presentation. She loved a beautiful plate so much that she would blow our phones up with pictures of her plated dishes. She loved to cook, which is highly ironic because, until she met Moira's father, she never cooked at all. No matter where she started, Jan always shined. Jan's greatest joy in life was her daughter, Moira. Her daughter meant the world to her, and she was so proud of her. Jan was extremely generous and kind to all that knew her. She would give her last dime if needed. She was loyal and easily loved. She had a very sarcastic wit and a quick comeback. She was always ready for the next fight with anyone. Her love affair with movies knew no bounds. She related everything she was going through to a move line or scene. She could quote all the lines from her favorite movie, The Hunt for Red October. She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Moira Turner of Los Angeles, CA; father, Starlington (Bob) Simms of Takoma Park, MD; mother Linda Abrams (Kenney Brown) of Las Vegas, NV; three sisters -- Tammy Simms, her twin sister, Danette Parks (Cedric) of Las Vegas, NV, and Stephanie Bowie of Indianapolis, IN; brother Damian Bowie and stepfather Steve Bowie of Centralia, WA; three nieces, Alexis Parks, Nicole Parks, and Christianna Raines; grand-niece (and "her mutant") Peyton Parks; and grand-nephew Aidan Romero, all of Las Vegas, NV. She also leaves to cherish many fond memories a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and loved ones who will miss her dearly. |
